The Keys to Staying Organised While Moving. We know moving can be chaotic: your life is in upheaval, and your belongings are all packed away. Here are some tips to keep it all together.

Staying Organised While Moving Saves Time and Money

Between all our storage locations, like our storage in Manly, our storage in Hamilton, or our hard storage in Lytton, we’ve seen all types of moving conditions and circumstances. We really understand the challenges you face with your move, and we’ve got some good tips to help keep your move on track.

Labeling. The importance of labeling boxes cannot be stressed enough. After you pack ten or twenty boxes, they all look the same. Furthermore it’s good to label them on more than one side, and label them with a little detail.  You and your movers can stack boxes facing any direction and you will still be able to read them. Small clues are all you need to list, such as ‘kitchen/glass’. You will save so much time from sifting through mountains of boxes that all look the same.

Room by Room. Pack and organise your items by the room; keep the office stuff together, keep bathroom stuff together, and keep bedrooms together. Label and stack boxes in the related groups. It’s astonishing how boxes quickly fill up. You’ll end up with way more than you think.

Furniture. We don’t recommend cutting corners with furniture. It’s best to wrap mattresses and upholsteries in plastic. If you can box your electronic gear, then you should. You don’t want dust, moisture or temperature to ruin your gear and furniture while in long-term storage.

A Dry Run. Staging your belongings always helps in shortening the move-out and move-in time. Plan where you will store your boxes before they head out the door, once they are in the storage unit, and how you will need to get them out. Plan to store heavier, bulkier things in the back of the storage unit. This means you should have them at the front of the moving van when you arrive.  And think ahead about what items you may need access to, for any reason, while in storage. Those items should be packed together, or stacked together up front. Place them where you can just open the door and grab them.

Plan and Consolidate. Organised moves help save time and money. Consolidate your items, use bags and suitcases for clothes storage, and store crates, boxes, and other packaging inside dressers and other furniture. Save money by minimising the amount of space you need. Proper planning and packing of boxes will help reduce the time it takes to move everything, without being distracted by all those loose items.

Don’t worry if you have heavy items or appliances too large to handle. Whether you are using storage in Wynnum, or our storage in Ascot, we have forklift and carts for your convenience at all our facilities. We’ve got dollies to help with your stacks of boxes, and our wide unit doors make it easy to get in and out.
